This is indeed the original part of WHS. If I remember correctly, just through the archway ,on the left hand side, were the head and deputy headmasters offices. I went there from 1967; the year Staffordshire began its experiment with the comprehensive system. They basically added two "grammar school streams " which were named after the first letters of the head and deputy heads names; Griffiths and Milner; I was in the "M" class. This is the first picture I have seen of the old school. If anyone has other pics from this era, please let me know.

The far left room was the sewing room. Our first task was to make a boys woodwork apron, then we make our own cooking apron and cap. We had to include a band of gingham in the colour of our house. The houses were Avon, Blythe, Cole and Tame. Mine was green for Avon.
The higher block in the background contained the ordinary classrooms. There were separate stairs for boys and for girls.

This is the original part of the school, the top end as the subsequent parts were built lower down the slope. To the right of the entry way is the school canteen. You used to walk through the entry way to get to the main corridor which took you to the domestic science rooms seen on the far left, and further on maths rooms, geography and some of the science labs, which you can see in the background. I remember the stairs inside were hollowed out, so you had to be careful not to rush in case you trapped your foot. Through the entry way and just to the right was school hall which was used for assemblies, prize giving and concerts. There was a door leading off that linked to the changing rooms and the swimming pool and gym. I remember the rose bed area so well - my first day at school, I was told off for standing on the paved area, when we should have been in the playground. Happy days

you are correct to belive this was wilnecote high school, it was the top part of the school with the swimming baths of to the right as you look at the photo, behind the white gates as you look at the right of the pic was the boiler house,in those days as you went up the school drive all the main buildings were all on the left leaving only a few mobiles on the right hand side, with 2 playgrounds seperated by a green chainlink fence as top playground had tennis courts on it, brings back memories I was a student there from 1972 to 1977, happy days
